text_font=&#8221;||||||||&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;0px||18px|||&#8221; text_font_size_tablet=&#8221;&#8221; text_font_size_phone=&#8221;16px&#8221; text_font_size_last_edited=&#8221;on|phone&#8221;]<p>Magda Bou Dagher Kharrat, iBOL\u2019s Science Committee member and a leader in DNA barcoding and conservation in Lebanon, has been named as a notable alumnus of the U.S. State Department\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/exchanges.state.gov\/non-us\/program\/international-visitor-leadership-program-ivlp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Visitor Leadership Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For its 80<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary celebration, the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) \u2013 a program that helps to foster international relationships through professional development exchanges \u2013 is highlighting 80 program alumni whose work has had a positive global impact.<\/p>\n<p>Magda, a professor of plant genetics and Director, Department of Life and Earth Science at Saint-Joseph University (USJ) of Beirut, is recognized as a leader in environmental issues and conservation in Lebanon. As a participant in the 2013 IVLP entitled \u201cWomen\u2019s Innovation in Science and Engineering\u201d, Magda travelled throughout the U.S. building her professional networks. She is serves as President of\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jouzourloubnan.org\/\"><em>Jouzour Loubnan<\/em><\/a>\u201d, an NGO aiming to restore and rehabilitate the most degraded landscapes in Lebanon, and has launched an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lebanon-flora.org\/\">online database of native Lebanese flora<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As a member of iBOL since 2018, Magda has been actively involved in the iBOL community and has been motivating young researchers to advance their understanding of DNA barcoding and its role in conservation.
