Pakistan’s National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE) in Faisalabad is organizing a one-day symposium – “DNA barcoding: A Promising Tool for Species Identification and Biodiversity Digitization – to create awareness among academia and the scientific community (including young researchers/students, biodiversity conservationists and quarantine regulators) about the usefulness of DNA barcoding for identifying and documenting existing animal and plant species and discovering new species.

Possible uses of barcoding in pest management, species distribution analysis and quarantine regulations will be discussed. Future course of action to involve scientific community, government departments and NGOs in species conservation through DNA barcoding will be thrashed out.
